North Carolina’s Refugee Population

Encounters with refugee populations are a surprise for
many of those new to teaching ESL in North Carolina. However, over 14,000
refugees from over 25 countries have been resettled in North Carolina in the
past ten years (U.S. Office of Refugee Resettlement). And although each refugee
family has their own unique set of circumstances, there are some general
recommendations for helping them integrate.
